Right when Sophia came to Nairobi (two days after me) we started working on field research with other youth in Kangemi slum (one of slums in Nairobi). The main point of the research was to make interviews with kids at schools, street kids and village elders to get the idea, what can be improved in Kangemi, which areas kids like/dislike. Based on this research we did a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) analysis to see what kind of projects can be launched in order to improve the area of Kangemi. We will have the presentation of results on Saturday to the local community and maybe also to some guys from city council, etc. Can’t tell now, don’t know. We also did some mapping in the area with my small GPS, so map could also be an output from this project. From tomorrow we should finally start to work in Makadara constituency, the area, where we should spend our 3 months internship, so I will post news from work soon.
Just a little news bit, before I go to sleep. On Saturday we went for a football match – friendly Kenya vs. Brazil. Both were B teams, but interesting and funny. BTW: Kenya won 1:0….
More info about Kenya, Nairobi, life in Africa, work in slums, etc will come later on.
By then, keep well and keep me updated what’s going on in your place – jirkapanek@gmail.com
