We have planned the Mombasa/East coast trip for few weeks and also had to reschedule it twice, but at the end, we finally manage to find a free extended weekend to make it real and fortunately it was also a weekend with my birthday, so b-day party on the beach was a close call

Mombasa
We took and night bus on Thursday to Mombasa (8 hours in a bus wasn’t super comfy, but still better than 15 hours in train :-p), so we have reached Mombasa at 6 a.m. and immediately went to closes budget hostel to check-in, so we were able to leave our stuff there and go to explore the city. We found a hostel for 5 EUR per room, so it wasn’t Hilton, but it was good enough for one night.
Mombasa is totally different from Nairobi, firstly there is a huge community of Muslims, so you can see mosque everywhere, secondly food is pretty much coast style, with lots of spices and fish. Moreover, Mombasa is about 7 hundred years older than Nairobi and it has been the most important port on the East African coast, actually it still is, so you can really feel a history in the city.
We didn’t have any clear plans for the city, so we have enjoyed the slow walks through old town with Lonely Planet in one hand and camera in the other one. We tried several types of fruits which names I don’t know even in Czech and discovered never ending small streets of Mombasa.
Second day we took a bus to the Watamu village, place well known for expensive hotels, Italian tourists, white sandy beaches and Watamu Marine National Park. We found a very nice private villa-style accommodation, where we settled down for next three days. We have met some cool guys there – Matt, a Walsh English teacher living in Qatar now and Adam, Canadian doctor, who was working last 6 months in Tanzania. Besides my B-Day party in local bar/club, we did a common trip to Gede ruins, close by. Gede ruins are supposed to be one of the most important culture places on East African coast – it was interesting, but honestly, probably don’t understand that much history, could be better
.
Our last day in Watamu village me, Sophia and Matt decided to go snorkelling to the Watamu Marine National Park and I have to say, it was really amazing. Dozens of different types of fish, corals, shells, just amazing, we have spent 2 hours in the water and it was really worth paying. I guess when I will be rich enough I will go for a diving course!
On our way back, Sophia got some stomach problems, so we had a funny 10 hours night bus trip back to Nairobi, but we managed and I am soo much looking forward for another Kenya trip. By then, keep well guys and talk to you later.
