Two weeks ago our colleague Faith invited us (Me and my German tandem Sophia) to a wedding of friends of her. As we were both interested, how such an event looks like, we decided to go.

Wedding
First catch came with our dress code, well obviously I didn’t expect to take part in wedding or any such a thing here in Kenya, so my best clothes were vintage jeans and batman T-Shirt. With combination of trekking shoes – just perfect!
I had to get myself decent clothes somewhere. I tried to buy me a shirt in the town, wow, I would never say it can be that hard to get me a proper shirt here. Anyway, it took me almost two hours to get one. Basically, it is almost impossible to get my size here. At the end of the day I had shirt, jeans and smart shoes from Kush – all in all not really cool, but better than Batman T-Shirt
As my jeans were pretty much used I had to wash them a little bit (we of course don’t have a washing machine here, so old-fashion hand work had to be enough). Than I was ironing jeans and shirt and I realized, my brand NEW shirt has a hole on the sleeve, so I had to sew it as well, damn! I hate washing clothes, ironing and sewing!!!
The wedding was at Karen Blixen museum (Karen Blixen is Danish writer, who spent most of her life in Kenya. Her most famous book is “Out of Africa” and she is also portrayed at Danish 50 Kroner note. )
The wedding started surprisingly on time – I guess they had just 30 minutes delay, what is very good timing in local environment. The whole official part was about two hours filled by singing, praying, dancing, etc. It was honestly amazing. After the official part wedding lunch for about 500 guests took place and after lunch another dancing came to place. Unfortunately I have been chosen by moderator to dance with some other guys, well, they wanted to have some fun, seeing white guy dancing – well I have to say they had a lot of fun
After wedding we went to party for “friends”
and stayed there till early morning. I can say, that my first African wedding was very nice experience and we both enjoyed it well.
Keep well friends…
